Somewhere in transit between the distributor and the shops, a box of Spiky Dreads got knocked around a bit and were returned with varying states of damage to the covers. They range from a slightly bashed corner to a small tear on the spine. All the vinyl is in mint condition and the covers still look great (they were designed to look a bit ragged in the first place). Each copy comes with a booklet and download.

Back in 2012, Wrongtom and Ed Zed sifted through stacks of old wax to bring you a comp of reggae and dub rendered by the skanky hands of various punk-rockers and post-punks from 1978 to 1984, featuring the likes of Bad Brains, The Slits, Jah Scouse, The Offs, and Vivien Goldman's Chantage project. Viv was also kind enough to write a foreword to Ed Zed's liner notes.

Amongst all this dislocated dub and ragged reggae there's an exclusive track from the Cardiac-adjacent Return Of The Panthers who split up soon after recording "Calling Captain Nemo" in 1982. It gathered dust for 30 years before appearing for the first and, so far, only time here.

Wrongtom has recently stumbled on a handful of copies of the LP, so we present to you Spiky Dread, available for the first time on Bandcamp.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
